Archival Inks and media
Fusers are the final stage of
the printing process where the toner is "fused" to
the media. In the range of 180 degrees centigrade, the toner
particles will melt and fuse or melt into the paper fibers or
media. The fuser assembly consists of a heat roller and a pressure
roller that the paper passes through. The heat roller has a proprietary
coating which allows the toner to be released and not transferred
to the paper passing through on the next rotation. The lower
roller is used to apply even pressure as the media passes between
the two rollers. Should either of these rollers become damaged
or compromised - warped, torn coating, labels or transparencies
stuck to the upper roller, the fuser should be replaced.
